Esprit Sauvage Was Better

Collaborations, nature, HISTORY!  Things I love.  And once again proving the superiority of all things AVL, a bottle shop in Cinci is naming themselves after one of its most prominent citizens.  Not Ochocinco…William Howard Taft.  (That’s his full name right?  Whatever.)

This man was POTUS and on the SCOTUS!  The only man to ever do that!  POTUS SCOTUS!  And all these fools could do was make fun of him for being too fat to get out of the tub?  POTUS SCOTUS!

Burial and ABC were more on point with Ella Fitz and Esprit Sauvage.

Tired Of IPA..?

I am certainly not tired of the IPA style.  Or of the DIPA style.  That style of beer got me into drinking good beer, I owe my beer life to the IPA.  Specifically Stone Ruination.

However, I do like what these guys are doing.  This is a much better movement than the crazy extreme brews made with ridiculous ingredients just for the sake of it.  (I do not mean to disparage anyone from attending [as if] the Extreme Beer Fest, it will be sweet.)

If you’re looking for a unique-ish style to try I would recommend a gose, “a German-style wheat beer brewed with salt and the bacteria lactobacillus”.  One of my favorite breweries, Cisco Brewers, makes a delicious gose.  The head brewer at Cisco actually wades into the Atlantic for their salt water.

Anyway, check out this link and keep your eye out for any beer from Off Color Brewing.  The guys who started it are from Goose Island and Two Brothers so they kinda know what they’re doing.

Off Color Brewing creates unique beers.

Any favorite antique or “lost” styles of beer?

A Song of Ice and Fire…And Ale

I’ve just finished book five.  I can say this is one of my favorite series of all time.  I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy, and I think this one has the most drinking.

Can you think of any other series with as much imbibing?

Seriously.  When I read I like to drink. And, while it doesn’t stop me, I dislike drinking alone.  But put a book full of debauchery and breaking fasts with strong dark ale in my hands and I have a full cast of characters to drink with.

There’s this, which I think has drink recommendations.  So that’s cool, but not anywhere near having so many good friends to drink with.

Please tell me about another good drinking series, please!

The Brewer of the Gods

Egypt Beer Brewer

I love history almost as much as I love beer.  When the two combine I just can’t help myself.  Even when Dogfish Head makes another ancient ale, none of which I’ve enjoyed, I have to get one to drink and two to lay down.  I cannot be helped.

Some ‘news’ (olds) out of Egypt, “archaeologists have unearthed a 3,000 year old tomb of a beer brewer in the city of Luxor…was the chief ‘maker of beer for the gods of the dead.'”

Archeologists Find Tomb of Ancient Beer Brewer

I seem to remember reading that women were brewers back then, not men.  Hammurabi had a thing or two to say about it I think.
